A Great Lawyer Resource for LPL Issues

The American Bar Association (ABA) has recently added a section to its fine web site. The National Legal Malpractice Data Center (NLMDC), ABA Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability, now has its own section on the ABA web site at http://www.abanet.org/legalservices/lpl/, and it is chock full of current issues and risk management help for attorneys regarding lawyers’ professional liability insurance. Legal Mutual is so certain that you will find this web site helpful, we have already added it to our web site Resources Section under National – Special Interest – National.

The Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability is currently chaired by Edward Mendrzycki, of counsel to Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett of New York City. Jane Nosbisch is the Director, and Glenn Fischer is the Assistant Staff Counsel who is actively involved with the new web site. Legal Mutual Liability Insurance Society of Maryland maintains a membership in the ABA National Legal Malpractice Data Center.

The web site contains a great deal of information and assistance for lawyers’ professional liability insurance, including:

  • the current state of the LPL insurance market;
  • hot topics such as mandatory insurance/disclosure;
  • insurance purchasing suggestions;
  • risk management resources;
  • an LPL advisory newsletter;
  • an LPL Hotline;
  • a publications resource;
  • LPL data statistics;
  • pertinent reference material for sale;
  • the Levit Essay Contest; and
  • information from such national resources as the National Association of Bar Related Insurance Companies (NABRICO), of which Legal Mutual is a member, Lawyers Weekly USA and GPSolo Magazine.

There is also an “NLMDC Member Area” with restricted access. Access is free for the inaugural year from September 1, 2003, through August 31, 2004, after which eMembership will be $25.00 per year. However, eMembership will remain free to full associate NLMDC members.

Legal Mutual highly suggests that you spend some time acquainting yourself with this web site. We believe you will find it a helpful resource you will end up using over and over again.
