Maryland Leadership in Law
By Walter E. Stewart, Jr.,
Executive Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer
Legal Mutual Liability Insurance Society of Maryland
In
2001 The Daily Record inaugurated the Maryland Leadership
in Law program to honor outstanding
individuals
in the Maryland legal community. The program culminates
each year in November at an awards luncheon to honor
the current year inductees, and to announce the “Top
Leadership in Law Award Winner.”
Twenty-four
(24) winners representing all five regions of the
state – Central Maryland, Suburban Maryland,
Southern Maryland, Western Maryland and the Eastern
Shore – are selected and announced, usually in
September, in The Daily Record and on-line at www.leadershipinlaw.com.
The Leadership in Law Award seeks to honor those members
of the legal profession who have worked towards the
betterment of the profession, as well as the communities
in which they live and work through civic or charitable
activities and mentoring. At the annual recognition
luncheon in November, a single individual is presented
with the “Top Leadership in Law Award” based
on the selection of the 24 peer honorees.
A special Leadership
in Law magazine profiling the
winners is published and inserted in a November edition
of The Daily Record, usually coinciding with the date
of the annual awards luncheon, and the profiles are
also added to the Leadership in Law web site.
Legal Mutual is proud to be a Bronze Sponsor of this
outstanding recognition program, and maintains a direct
link to the Maryland Leadership in Law web site on
the welcome page of its web site at www.legalmutual.com.
To become a sponsor of this excellent program, you
can contact Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, Associate Publisher
and Vice President of Sales of The Daily Record, at
(410) 752-3849 Ext. 103, or e-mail Suzanne at huettner@mddailyrecord.com
During the first three years of operation, the Maryland
Leadership in Law awards program has honored 71 outstanding
individuals in Maryland plus the YLS Disaster Relief
Committee (2002). Legal Mutual is extremely proud to
have had at least one of its policyholders honored
each year of the program, and to date Legal Mutual
has seen five of its policyholders recognized plus
two members of its board of directors. Not a bad record!
Legal
Mutual was especially proud to see Harry S. Johnson,
Esquire, President of the Maryland State Bar
Association, and Sharon E. Goldsmith, Esquire, Executive
Director of the Pro Bono Resource Center recognized
in 2003. The Pro Bono Resource Center has been the
beneficiary of three Legal Mutual charity fund-raiser
golf tournaments to date.
Legal
Mutual highly commends The
Daily Record for introducing
and supporting this excellent lawyer recognition
program. Unlike our usual daily news these days,
it’s
nice to see something good in our lives recognized
for a change.

MSBA Solo and Small Practice Conference
Saturday, November 15, 2003
Sheraton Columbia Hotel
The 2003 MSBA Solo and Small Practice Conference was
held at the Sheraton Columbia Hotel on Saturday, November
15, 2003. The conference seemed to be very well attended,
and our own Kay Kenny snapped a few photos of visitors
to the Legal Mutual booth.
If your picture didn’t make this issue, you
should be glad because either you had your eyes closed,
or your mouth full of those bagels, or the picture
just didn’t turn out. Maybe we’ll get you
next time!
